Zoe Cassavetes

Zoe Cassavetes has worked on many productions as a director, writer, producer and actress. In 1993, Zoe co-created and co-hosted the experimental digital video television show HIGH OCTANE for Comedy Central with co-conspirator Sofia Coppola. The show was based in lifestyle culture combined with humorous skits and guests like Martin Scorsese, The Beastie Boys, and Keanu Reeves as well as experimental artists and unexpected choices like stunt driver Buddy Joe Hooker. It was one of the first shows to be shot on digital video and use unconventional editing.

In 1997, Zoe moved from Los Angeles to New York City where she was inspired to make her short film MEN MAKE WOMEN CRAZY THEORY, which was selected at the Sundance Film Festival (2000). The short was critically acclaimed in the US and France, and has become a cult classic. The movie is also shown frequently on the Sundance Channel.

While working on her script fort her first feature, BROKEN ENGLISH, Zoe began directing commercials and music video and working as a photographer. She has directed music videos for such artists as Duncan Sheik, Nancy Boy, Chromeo and Scratch Massive. Commercials she has directed include spots fort he designer Anna Sui, French handbag designer Lamarthe and she just finished shooting a spot fort he new Ferragamo fragrance „Tuscan Soul“.

Zoe´s photographic assignments include work for The New York Times magazine, the French newspaper Liberation, and fashion magazines Jalouse and Italian Glamour among others.

BROKEN ENGLISH, which Zoe wrote and directed, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2007. The LA TIMES review of the film said, „A simple, empathetic script and calm assured directing display a level of emotional honesty and character development that´s confoundingly rare these days, especially when it comes to female characters.“
